2012 "ADVANCED/FX TRAINING"

MAY 20th - MAY 27th TUITION: $2300.00
8 DAY WEEK - 70 HOURS DEPOSIT: $700.00

"Studio A" (Garson Studios)

"Saloon" (Eaves Movie Ranch)

The Advanced/FX training session will take place at our new location in Santa Fe, N.M. in conjunction with the Garson studios and Santa Fe University. To be able to conduct a training on the site where "True Grit", "No Country for Old Men", "Crazy Heart", "Thor", "The Book of Eli", "Cowboys & Aliens" and many other award winning films were produced will be a wonderful opportunity especially since there will be films being produced while our stunt students are attending the May training and they will have the opportunity to observe first hand the making of a film as well as making their own short film at the "Eaves Movie Ranch" just outside the Santa Fe city limits.

The primary focus of the advanced class will be cars and special effects. We will not only cover more advanced precision driving but we will emphasize other aspects of the use of vehicles as they relate to film. We will be introducing car hits (both contact and wire applications). We will be including car drags, car exits (rolling out of a moving vehicle), and car transfers.

With Special Effects, students will be introduced to the use of squibs (explosive devices attached to the body) as well as how to sell body hits! Naturally, along with squib hits the participants will be firing weapons (both hand guns and rifles) while learning the safety aspects of handling various weapons on a set. Explosive devices will be introduced along with the air ram which will duplicate a person being blown through the air via the air ram and explosive device in tandem. Squibs are also used to break glass. All the participants will go through glass doors as part of their training. In that many films do not have access to air bags on a set we will be introducing the use of "box rigs" which were the state of the art prior to the advent of air bags. They are still used to this day on many film projects! The final day will take place at the Eaves Movie Ranch where an entire western town is situated. We will us the local saloon (fully furnished) as the principle location to shoot a short film. It will consist of primarily a bar-room brawl with everyone participating including Jesse the town dog who has run of the place! Every aspect of the project will be coordinated and choreographed. A certain amount of time will be spent organizing and putting the production together. The students will be able to go from observing a film being made at the Garson Studios to actually producing their own project! This project will be edited with sound et al and distributed to the participants.

What we want to accomplish with the advanced/FX is to provide an opportunity for students to learn more advanced driving techniques as well as special effects. The training is meant to give you those techniques that you haven't experienced in your prior trainings as well as the where-with-all to understand what actually happens on a film set. What is the protocol? What is the language of film? We want our students to not only know how to execute various stunts but we also want them to understand what goes on in a film shoot. Why it is so important to understand the entire process of film making. If you are going to be involved in an industry as complex as film production, it behooves you to be well informed in all aspects of that endeavor and that does not mean just performing physical maneuvers. This is going to be a very informative training and coupled with the other training venues you have already pursued in your quest to be a part of this very exciting profession it will further verify and support your decision to become stunt performers, and with that comes not only the financial rewards but perhaps more noteworthy a feeling of accomplishment and excitement in your chosen field.
